View Full Version : Huge Appetite; TRT Related?

Could TRT be causing an increase in appetite for me? I've had enough other medical problems(chronic fatigue) that it could be completely unrelated...but I just wanted to see if anyone else had this experience. I've never found any metabolic, appetite, blood sugar, etc issues until now.

I've been having energy problems for years now that were termed "chronic fatigue syndrome". I finally flew out to see Dr. Crisler, did a stint with transdermals(didn't work out with me), got tuned on IM testosterone, and just started HCG.

For awhile, I had so little energy that my *only* activity was an 8 minute walk to class and back everyday. I took in about 1800 calories/day and seemed okay. I lost some weight, but it seemed to be mostly fat.

After starting IM testosterone, I've noticed my appetite shoot up. I started limiting myself to 2400 calories a day, as I was only *slightly* more active than before, and I figured that was far enough above maintenance that I wasn't going to do any damage.

I was just too hungry at that point, let myself go, and have been doing between 3000-5000 calories a day. I have no idea how I even get 5000 calories through my mouth, but on those super-high calorie days, I feel SO MUCH better than normal. I haven't slept this well in years. I just go to bed and wake up refreshed 8 hours later. No waking 15 times, no feeling like I'm running a marathon trying to stay in bed, and no feeling like I got hit by a bus when I finally get up. That hasn't happened to me for years!

I'm a little concerned about taking in this much food. It just doesn't seem healthy. I'm a fairly small guy at this point(5'10", 142lbs, 5% BF), so gaining a little weight isn't going to kill me. But I can't go on eating like this forever unless I want to end up with self-induced diabetes and get pushed around in a wheelbarrow all day .

You should probably talk to Dr. Crisler about this.

Hi are you saying that the IM testosterone has gotten rid of your fatigue? I ask because I have CFS myself and am doing poorly on the transdermals. Many thanks.
garcia.

Ask dr John to readjust your bearings.

5'10" and 142#

Stay away from wheat, rye, potatos, sugar

eat to your heart content, do not stop until you are about 165#
then re-evaluate.

If you have any muscles, you can go for 175#
Here make sure that you always fit comfortably into 34size pants.

All I do is eat. If I have dollar bills in my wallet I get two or three candy bars from the machine daily, in addition to everything else I eat. I can still fit in 34 pants though

I think T does increase appetite. You're underweight. Maybe now your body has normal hormones, it wants to get you to a normal weight. I'm not sure about the candy bars, maybe something healthier instead, but IMHO I wouldn't worry about limiting calories until you've gotten to normal.

If you don't lift weights, I'd suggest doing that and help your body add that weight more as muscle than anything else...

I am now on TD testosterone, which has never affected my appetite much.

But when I was on shots- OMG!! I would eat a good meal and be ready to eat again after less than an hour - I enjoyed it, but eating all the time did get to be kind of a pain.

Big strength increase, too. I was lifting crazy amounts (at least, crazy for me.)

Wow. It sounds like your body wants to adjust to a more normal weight. Now that your body has the T, it probably wants to do its job of being anabolic (anabolic - "characterized by or promoting constructive metabolism").

You seem to feel great when you eat more, you need to gain weight...sounds like a great thing to me!

You are not eating enough calories! I assume you are young, in college, at 142 you should be in less than a 34 pant. I was 185 and in a 34 in college. You need to lay off the candy bars, find a salad, minus hillbilly ketchup(Ranch Dressing) and eat a cleaner diet.

I'm the one that posted about eating the candy bars, not foobar16
pop-tarts too. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I never did consider myself underweight...definitely not the biggest guy around, but not unhealthily small either. Maybe optimizing my hormones is pushing me to grow. I'll give eating more a shot and hope not to put on too much fat in the process. I'm already a nut :willy_nilly: about eating healthily(that smiley might even be an understatement), so no worries there.

I'm going to do my best to go to the gym and lift. Hopefully getting my hormones tuned up will give me enough energy!

Garcia, I'm still battling with fatigue. By tuned up, I meant my testosterone and estradiol came back not only in the normal range for the first time ever...but actually in the optimal range. I've been trashed for years, so I'm not expecting it to be an instant fix, but I'm hoping my body can begin to heal with time.

5'-10" and 140# seems very thin. Maybe built like a marathon runner?
I agree with the others. As long as you're eating healthy things and not gaining fat don't ignore your body asking for nourishment. I also found that TRT increased my metabolism and appitite.
