View Full Version : Pregnenolone for memory
wondering

just a random post.... my mom has really been suffering from decline in cognitive function and memory loss since her last operation. She saw a neurologist yesterday who wants to put her on Aricept and also give her a couple MRIs on the remote chance she had a mini stroke during or after her operation. This was the 9th in her lifetime.
I spoke with my holistic Dr. about Pregnenolone and she said she is willing to try it. My dad just called and he is anxious to give it a whirl, so I'm gonna drop off tonight after work.
Really concerned and not sure what else to do. I mentioned DHEA to my Dr and she thought she tested it on my mother but was going to double check.
My mom is also under lots of stress due to my grandmother being in decline and in a home.

guess I'm having some second thoughts... my mom has had a history of a small amount of "womenly" cancers. I believe she has had a total hysterectomy, but I need to confirm.
Regardless, I think she should speak to a Dr about any concerns in order to make a choice. If if risks are involved, it will come down to a decision she has to make. But she should have some info from someone other than me.
I'm just rambling and venting.

Sorry to hear about your Mom.
As for pregnenolone:
In my research I ran across accounts of arthritis patients being treated with hundreds of mg per day with no bad side effects. This was before cortisone was invented to treat arthritis.

thanks.
I guess I'm not concerned about Preg being safe in most conditions, rather contraindicated in someone with a previous history of uterine cancer (but received a total hysterectomy) and breast cancer years and years ago (small masectomy)
sorry I know it a mens forum.

My Mom lived with me last 25 years and died in 2005, 95yo.
Few short years ago.
I had not much of a clue about any medical conditions then.
Had she made it till about now, I would have made her take my long list of tests, except PSA.
Had I fixed her thyroid, adrenals and hormones, she would still be cooking for me, I am sure.
She had hysterectomy sometimes in 50's.
First have her tested.
You can cogitate latter, anyway you feel like it, but you have some basis for discussion.
Same goes for your Grandmother.

Take termometer, measure her temp.

I guess this applied to men too... Test. is contraindicated in men w/ prostate cancer, so can we assume Pregnenolone is contraindicated as well?
still thinking about my mom, but wonder here.
thanks.

Pregnenolone can go down different pathways. One goes to cortisol eventually. Another way goes down the test and estrogen pathway. So it depends on the person and what their system needs. It may be possible that the pregnenolone doesn't go down the test pathway too much in a person.
