Hi all, I am a 26 year old male with a sometimes low sex drive and mood swings. Sometimes I have difficulty maintaining erections and sometimes not really. I managed to get a blood test focusing on some sex hormones and I was curious if anyone could comment on these levels for a 26 year old male.
Free Testosterone - 1.34 ng/dL ( Ref. Range .95 - 4.30 )
Testosterone Level - 323 ng/dL ( Ref. Range 240 - 1048 )
Follicle Stimulating Hormone Level - 2.3 mIU/mL ( Ref. Range 1.6 - 11 )
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin - 20 nmol/L ( Ref. Range 13 - 71 )
Estradiol - 30.3 pg/mL ( Ref. Range 11 - 32.1 )
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone - 2.11 uIU/mL ( Ref. Range .50 - 5.20)
Prolactin - 5.4 ng/mL ( Ref. Range < = 18.0 )
Any comments from anyone knowledgeable would be helpful. It seems like, as far as testosterone goes, I am on the very low end, just above abnormal. I am wondering if I should go see an HRT doctor.
Thanks!

Your T level is low for 26 years old. Relative to the T level, the E2 level is high, provided you took the right E2 test.
Others will post, but it would be good to know your LH level to know whether you are primary or secondary. You should also let us know your diet, lifestyle and medical history as that may be playing a part.
Ideally, you don't want to go hRt (the R is replacement) if you can fix up your system without doing that.

Examine lifestyle (overtraning and undereating), nutritoinal and mineral imbalances, sleep patterns, possible hidden toxic exposures (co2,work or places you have worked in before) or emotional trama as possible hidden stressor. Any stress can elevate cortisol as potential cause for your low Testosterone levels. Also further excessment of reverse t3, thyroid antibodies, and ft3 and ft4 levels are need for futher evaluaiton.

TT very low
FSH low normal
LH would help if you cold get it, but on the first cut it looks like Secondary
Secondary--> Testicle good but no signal/order to make them work, pituitary problem. Pituitary is responsible for many other hormones that are therefore suspect.
Estradiol, minimally high, mostly acceptable
SHBG very nice
Prolactin ok
TSH one newer know, relatively useless test
============================================
If you can, get good overal test, list is on my post #44 between blue lines, here:
http://anabolicminds.com/forum/male-anti-aging/66268-jans-bloodtest-april13-2.html
Post all tests that you have done in last 3-4 yers.
Post your history.
============================================
If you have a problem with my list and want to do minimal work:
I would start with getting
LH and DHT test
LH is most likely low (my guess)
Low DHT use HCG and latter Transdermal-T (if need)(Androgel if you can)
High DHT use HCG and latter T-shots (if need)
When on (HCG + T shots) do them on alternate days.
With ant of the above, make sure that you test DHEAs(500-640)

Best if you could swing good testing first

As I was guessing above.
So ATM we can say that you are most likely secondary.
First priority is to keep you being secondary.
Secondary is better condition than Primary.
Either do DHT test and proceed as I described in my previous post,
or
better
do more testing if you have a
means
time
patience
Your call.

Shrike: since you're this young, HANs method should be your first choice, ie:
Examine lifestyle (overtraning and undereating), nutritoinal and mineral imbalances, sleep patterns, possible hidden toxic exposures (co2,work or places you have worked in before) or emotional trama as possible hidden stressor. Any stress can elevate cortisol as potential cause for your low Testosterone levels. Also further excessment of reverse t3, thyroid antibodies, and ft3 and ft4 levels are need for futher evaluaiton.
I suspect you haven't yet tried HANs suggestions.
Please don't jump on the hormone supplementation bandwagon until after you've covered as many of the nutrition and exercise basics, as you can, before your frustration overwhelms you, and you insist on the hormone supplements route.
Usually gents as young as you cannot afford to fund hormone supplementation independently, therefore you may need financial assistance by way of insurance reimbursements.
With those numbers you wouldn't get any significant amount of financial reimbursement. You would need even lower numbers to get reimbursement- ouch!

re: MarkLA. I think you meant to direct this to Shrike, the OP. However, I do agree with your suggestions. (I'm a little older and have already been through looking at the other alternatives)

Shrike,
How heavy are you? What is your height/weight?
Do you drink, use drugs or prescription drugs? Or issues in the past?
Any liver issues

I am 6'0 195 lbs. I used to smoke weed and eat mushrooms, but those days are long gone. No liver issues.
I am confused, do I have a low LH for my age? It is within the normal range I thought.

Your hormone profile as posted is low for your age and low for optimal health.
I suspect that you've read hardasnails1973 suggestion above - re nutritional balancing, and it doesn't sound sexy, and that you've discounted it.
I suspect you want to jump on the hormone supplementation bandwagon - please confirm that I am wrong ?

Detox and rebalance the liver pathways may be all you need Go see a good detoxifcation specialist in your area or accupuncturist, infared sauna. Stop smoking it if you are still doing it.. All the toxins are stored in your fat cells. 6 ft 195 means your can still be fat and out of shape.
