View Full Version : Question Kaiser Insurance
Anyone have Kaiser insurance and know if there is a way to get labs done or prescriptions filled using them. I will be starting a job that pays full benefits to go to kaiser and was hoping somehow to have the Dr john stuff covered. (Labs would be huge) Thanks

Honestly, if you've got Kaiser, you've got bigger problems than just getting your labs covered. That place is dangerous.

I have it-- doesn't cover anything related to my HRT, not even thyroid because I'm "subclinical". I basically keep it in case I need a surgery, antibiotics or emergency.

I have Kaiser and I think I receive very good health care, for the most part. But I really stay on top of things, I do my homework and I've learned to be very demanding. I am very much the squeaky wheel with Kaiser.
It's doubtful you will be able to get them to do the sophisticated HRT we talk about here, no matter how much of a fuss you raise.
You may be able to talk your PCP into doing a serum testosterone assay. If you are within the reference range, he/she will tell you you're "normal" and don't need replacement therapy - end of story. If you are below range, he/she will repeat the test to confirm, and may prescribe replacement. Some people get TD, others get injected T. If he prescribes injected T, it will likely be something like a single shot of 200 mg monthly and they won't let you self-administer.
You can pretty much forget about more sophisticated testing. And I would be extremely surprised if you were able to get a Kaiser doc to consult with an outside doc. I almost had to get an act of Congress in order to get a vascular surgeon to make a simple phone call to a radiologist at another Kaiser facilitywithin the same service area. The idea of getting a Kaiser doc to consult with Dr. John is almost laughable.
All of that having been said, your experience with Kaiser is largely determined by your PCP. If he/she is good and you have a good relationship with them, they just might help you tap into Kaiser's enormous resources.

I agree with this, I got good care with Kaiser but I had to make demands and stand my ground...Almost wish I had it again.
