My past history is life-long undiagnosed silent celiac, eventually leading to Hashi's and hypothyroidism, and flat-lined adrenals. Have made a lot of progress since going off gluten in 2003, including getting rid of rT3 last year by going on T3-only. However I still had a nagging feeling that something was wrong. So, I decided to take the Spectracell Comprehensive Nutritional Profile at the end of December, knowing nothing about it other than what the company says at spectracell.com.

The results were that most of my nutritional levels were above the thresholds, but there were exceptions:

oleic acid 65 >65
lipoic acid 80 >81
total antiox 56 >65
fructose sensitivity 30 >34

Based on the test results, I decided to do the following. Boosted my fish oil by one-third. Addressed the total antiox problem by adding the following to my morning regimen: NAC 500mg with C 1000mg I was already taking; CoQ10 60mg; R-Alpha Lipoic Acid 100mg. Also add Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg most days.

Results were very significant; I feel really well. These nutrients are a tremendous brain boost. Based on this result, I would recommend Spectracell's test to others.

The main thing I did NOT like about Spectracell is the bureaucratic wrangling I had to do to get my test results. They didn't collect enough info from the blood-draw provider, and my doc wasn't "registered" with them, so my doc and I spent far too much time on the phone arguing with them before we finally got the results more than a month after the blood-draw.

How much was is it?

Oooo. That's the part I HATE. I just got the form back from my insurance company saying they wouldn't pay for a dime of it, and their discounted price (the amount I have to pay to spectracell labs) is $1490. The amount they actually billed the insurance company for was $1812.

Was it worth it? Considering that dealing with spectracell labs was a huge pain in the a-s-s (my doc practically had to threaten them to get the results ... something about not being in their member doctor network), I would have to say no.
