hi all, my insurance switched me from testim to androgel (5gm packets) for whatever reason. is there much difference? i did noticed the androgel dose not have a smell to it and dries much quicker. has anyone made that switch?

How long have you been dosing testosterone and what brought you to where you have to use it?

I never used Testim but I switched from Androgel to a compounded gel and like it better. There is a lot less to apply and it doesn't leave a glaze. Its also less expensive.

Care to share if your compounded gel is sticky after application?

Also, do you have to apply to your forearms, only (assuming you go through Dr. Crisler's compounder)?

I switched, like the Androgel pump better than Testim tubes. Also I got a lot of comments about my new cologne, the Testim had a musky sent to it. Androgel seems to be working better for me but I am thinking about going with a compounded form to save some cash.

thanks, i noticed the androgel seems to be a little thinner then testim. i need to get use to just spreading it compared to rubbing the testim in real well.

another question. on the androgel insert it says to apply it to the shoulders and abdomen. whats the reason why no one applies it to the abs? (yes, i did search and could not find an answer) thanks

The reason they recommend the sholders ect. is that hair absorbs the gel. Any area free of hair will do. The application to abs reportedly will go the fat and cause higher E2. And yes you can shave an area and apply

Shoot for shoulders/chest, sides of abs ('flanks'), and calves. Absorption studies have used these areas to success.

I do hear Androgel normally works quite well around here that is so said normally.
Testim works however it is heard that it does not work as well.

I have been on Testim for 3 years now..I've no complaints....

erection quality is pretty consistant and libido is at an all time high..luckily my wife is on board with it all so it works out well.

My personal experience is that Testim worked just fine for me. It seemed to raise my T level higher than an equal dose of Androgel.

I am on Androgel for the past year because my insurance won't pay for Testim only Androgel.

That tells me that Androgel must be cutting some price deals with insurers that Testim is not willing to match.

Krazy,I don't have any glaze from the compounded cream VS Andogel. It all rubs in like lotion. I apply it to my calves twice a day. Androgel gave it a shiny glazed effect.

im finally getting use to putting the andogel on. i like the way it dries so quick compared to testim & it dries without a trace (not tacky). i also don't miss the testim smell. i got a cupon on-line to save 20 bucks a month on my co-pay for a year.

...a little Androgel trick I learned last year when I was using it. After squeezing all the gel out of the empty packet, take a pair of scissors and slit the packet open (on two of the thee closed sides, so down the length and then across the bottom). Open the empty packet up (like a book) and smear the remaining gel onto your application site to get every last drop out.

Now here's the 'trick'. Save that empty, opened packet till tomorrow. Tomorrow morning when you go to apply your morning dose, squeeze the newly opened package onto the 'old' package/sheet from yesterday, then apply the gel without every having it touch your fingers and/or skin.

Essentially it eliminates all waste and makes for a quick and easy application. When finished, simply discard the opened sheet, slice open the current package (same as yesterday), smear on any/all remaining gel and then save this opened package for the next day's application. Works like a charm...hebs

dutter, the only reason compounded T leaves a residue on someone's skin is because their absorption is marginal, which in turn is predominantly due to thyroid hormone dysfunction.

This is only true for a minority of males - and usually with thyroid hormone dysfunction, therefore flyfish's comments most likely don't apply to you since you're absorbing reasonably well.

...maybe not sticky worthy, but it does work pretty good...hebs

ps...and I should mention, it's best that you have your own pair of scissors when doing this, and you're not just borrowing the household pair that's found in the kitchen drawer
